We are new to this yet we love this upcycling measures we have taken, it is certainly not eradicating all the waste from Bissamcuttack but lessening for sure. The dhabas we collect waste from, either burn or throw it in the sewage or land. So if they burn it then the plastic waste breaks down to micro particles which hampers the air quality and we inhale the bad air leading to several respiratory and non-respiratory problems too. If they leave it in the sewage it clogs the drainage system leading to overflow of dirty water on streets and if plastic wastes are dumped on land then it degrades the soil quality or end up in animal’s stomach.
So we have made these few usables like bags to shop vegetables, waterproof pouches to carry money, phone etc, mats, hanging shelf and wallets out of trash with the help of woman in village Chatikona. Hope to make more usables soon.
